Quarterly impact report - April to June 2026

This report and accompanying video highlight our major impacts throughout the first quarter of 2026-27 (April to June 2026).

This quarter our information and advice website pages had 1684 views, 274 people shared their experiences with us and we spoke to, supported or helped 231 people via our Helpdesk or in the community. Our report highlights how our independent and impartial role helps us achieve our impact. The report also highlights the support provided to individuals through our Helpdesk and Independent Health Complaints Advocacy service.

This quarter some key examples are:

  • Enabling local change - focussing on people's experiences of care in hospitals. In this quarter, based on our findings at Royal Surrey County Hospital, the Trust is reviewing reception roles, information about waiting times, improved signage to refreshments and signposting for feedback. You can find out more on page 14 of our report.
  • Working within complex systems - our Helpdesk regularly supports people who find it hard to understand the complexities of the health and/or social care systems. This quarter has highlighted that people often need multiple layers of support - we supported one person who needed assistance to attend hospital appointments but also with accessing social care support and another person who needed help with dentistry and was also an unpaid carer for two close family members with terminal cancer.  You can read these case studies on page 5.
  • Co-producing practical recommendations -  the volunteers on our Reading Panel have dedicated 35 hours scrutinising the Quality Accounts of 8 different providers, suggesting changes and improvements to ensure better clarity and accessibility. Find out more on page 22.
  • Ensuring an independent perspective - This quarter we have used the insights people have shared with us to inform the Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) relating to people with disabilities and long term health conditions and end of life care. The insight has also ben used to assist the Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board with a project looking at carers. Further examples are on page 17.

We thank everyone who gave their time and shared their experiences with us this quarter.
