Out of sight, out of mind: parents and carers understanding of sight tests for school aged children - July 2025

Through May and June we asked parents of school age children about whether their children had sight (eye) tests and if there were any barriers to having these tests. 87 people responded to our survey or spoke to us at community events.

Only half reported that they took their child/ren for a sight test annually and 1 out of 5 said they didn’t visit regularly. Just over half of the people involved said knowing the criteria for free sight tests and optical vouchers for children would make a difference to them taking their child/ren for sight tests.
