Unlocking the power of people-driven care: Healthwatch Surrey Annual report 2024-2025

Our 2024 – 2025 annual report ‘Unlocking the power of people‑driven care’ highlights our impact throughout the year supported by our volunteers, with the lived experience of Surrey residents being the driver of our work.

Our short video also captures the key highlights.

Through 2024 – 2025, 2187 Surrey residents shared their experiences about health and social care with us and 424 people came to our Helpdesk for advice and information on topics such as complaints procedures, social care funding, accessing GP practices and mental health support.

  • Reshaping the approach to co-production within a Trust
  • Improving information on GP practice websites locally
  • Raising awareness of the Accessible Information Standard through a system wide working group and sharing lived experience through a video
  • Improving pharmacy access for those with a hearing impairment
  • Ensuring carers are recognised and well supported
  • Improving the outpatient experience for our neurodivergent population
  • Strengthening the voice of local people by working with VCSE partners and enhancing wider collaboration
  • Significant changes to the assessment criteria used by the Surrey Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment Steering group
  • Surrey County Council’s communications strategy regarding the journey of people who self fund care homes.

"We acknowledge to date that the experience for our patients and carers needs work and focus, and the lived experience in this report about neurodivergent people's experiences of outpatients in Surrey hospitals truly helps develop this work. We have used this report to develop our commitments in response to the experiences highlighted."

Quarterly impact report- April to June 2025

This report highlights our major impacts throughout our first quarter of 2025/26 (April to June 2025). This quarter 989 people shared their experiences with us. Our work covered a wide range of health and social care, including children’s eye care, mental health in prisons, sexual health, domestic abuse and patient transport to and from hospitals. The report also highlights the support provided to individuals through our Helpdesk and Independent Health Complaints Advocacy Service.

What we're hearing about services commissioned by the public health team- March 2025

This report provides insights into local people’s views on, and experiences of Public Health services across Surrey. It is based on what people have told us at our agenda free listening engagement events, and via our Helpdesk, Independent Health Complaints Advocacy service, Giving Carers a Voice engagement, Combating Drugs Partnership Public Involvement, online Feedback Centre, postal submissions and Healthwatch England’s website.
