Research opportunity: patient safety and ambulances crews

This project is led by Samantha Laws, a PhD student at Cardiff University. She is conducting a study about the safety of non-conveyance. Non-conveyance is when ambulance crews attend patients when they call 999, but it is decided that they don’t need to go to the Emergency Department.
On a dark blue image there are various icons arranged in 2 rows - on the top row an online survey, hands raised in the air and speech bubbles; on the bottom row a happy face, a neutral face and a sad face. To the top left corner and bottom right corner are the Healthwatch Surrey speech marks.

PhD student, Samantha Laws, is hoping to understand more about how non-conveyance happens in clinical practice, to make improvements to the ambulance service and safety for patients. If you are a clinician on an ambulance, a patient or a carer with experience of non-conveyance in the last year, she would like to invite you for an interview. This study is not funded so she cannot pay you for your time, but you will be contributing to improving the ambulance service and safety for patients.

If you would be interested in taking part in this study or simply want to know more about it, please contact Samantha for an informal chat at LawsSA@cardiff.ac.uk

Please note, recruitment for participants will continue until the end of January 2026.
