NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

Some recent research by the Nuffield Trust highlights what we have been hearing about NHS CHC funding - that the process is confusing and sometimes hard for individuals to go through. We have provided some information and advice to help with this, including a video by someone with lived experience.

A recent report by the Nuffield Trust: All or nothing? Access and variation in NHS continuing health care shows that there are inconsistencies within the system, with wide regional variation in eligibility, spending and practice.

NHS continuing health care (CHC) provides funded health and social care support for people with very complex needs outside hospital.

Following calls to our Helpdesk and from people we spoke to out in the community, we too found people were confused by the process. We therefore recently published some information and signposting regarding CHC to help people better understand the process and also produced a video sharing someone's first hand experience of receiving funding, who also offered some top tips regarding the process.

If you have an experience to share, or need information and signpostinging about this or other health and social care services, please contact our Helpdesk.
