Residents in East Surrey to have a ‘neighbourhood health team’

The Government has announced an investment of £10 million to roll out the nation’s first ‘neighbourhood health service’ which includes part of East Surrey.
At the top are the words: Neighbourhood health schemes Underneath is an image of people putting their hands into a circle - they are all wearing medical costs or scrubs. One has a stethoscope around their neck.

Programme leads in areas of the country with the lowest life expectancy and the longest waits for care – including parts of East Surrey - will draw together a range of professions to develop a neighbourhood health team. These teams will consist of community nurses, hospital doctors, social care workers, pharmacists, dentists, optometrists, paramedics, social prescribers, local government organisations and the voluntary sector.

The aim of the scheme is to give people easier access to the right care and support on their doorstep, and to tackle the country’s health inequalities. The impact of finance on physical health has long been reported and, in August this year, we reported on the impact which financial concerns and constraints also have people’s emotional wellbeing
