Healthwatch Surrey responds to care home closures
Chief Executive for the consumer champion, Mike Rich has said he is “disappointed” with Surrey Council’s decision to close their 6 residential care homes for older people, which will result in the relocation of 133 residents and two carer respite services.
The decision, announced last week, will close Brockhurst in Ottershaw, Cobgates in Farnham, Dormers in Caterham, Longfield in Cranleigh, Park Hall in Reigate and Pinehurst in Camberley.
Public feedback to the closures has included 4,000 petition signatures against the closure as well as protests in Reigate and outside County Hall in Kingston.
Commenting on the feedback, Mike Rich said, “We are concerned that residents, carers and their families have not been properly informed or assured by the council that their care will continue with minimum disruption’.
He added, “We will be requesting more details from the council about the transitional arrangements for those affected by the closures.”
